Innovation Camp---- To Think, To Explore, To Dig, and To Innovate.

Innovation Camp

The mentality of this Innovation Camp is to explore what the essence of the Designing innovation tools is, to challenge our brains with multiple tasks, to push our limits to the most and to learn more from team members as we are spending the whole 58h all along together. The very most question we got is:

——"How to employ social media cost efficiently way to set more customers to Keskusautohalli?"

It's a tricky question yet it is very intriguing.
It's tricky because we know nothing about Keskusautohalli before. I can only tell how this word is assemble with my limited knowledge on Finnish, it's something related to car and mall. Apart from that. Nothing else.
It's intriguing as we are all majoring in Business field. When doing business, it is extremely crucial to maximum cost efficiency. It's all about benefits and revenue. Every penny spent should be worthwhile its value. What is more, social media has always been the topic that we are honestly interested. Social media has been bringing people together in a total new way. It has been influencing the world in a way we could never have imagined before. It is a evolutionary way of communicating information to the other end. It is predicable as people follow trend without overthinking on social media. Yet it is unclear as people are not always rational when making decisions. It's a method to conduct marketing and branding. But here comes the question, HOW?

How shall we do that?
Every since we got the question, we have been pinning ideas with stickers to the wall.
Splitting up the questions with small questions?
What (have we) learnt today?
W(hat's) T(hat)  F(or)?
What is cost efficiency?
How to define social media
...ETC

The best idea comes up when we are hitting the  deadend of nowhere, when we are at the place to go to nowhere but lingering around with the same ideas. We try to make the idea crazy yet feasible. It is the moment that we were laying down and throwing ideas in the basket that we came up with the most brilliant idea. Laying in bed does not equal to being lazy. Rules are, no phones but keep talking when you are in bed. Hence we got to keep the ideation flow going without too much interruption. I would prefer to call it innovation on energy saving mode. We got the crazies idea of engaging Tinder, which is you can set distance, age limitation and gender, to brand Keskusautohalli. The idea turns out to be feasible and the company managers are very interested.

Observation Deck is another place where we come up with the idea of how to describe the need for innovating on the company operating mode. From there we can overlook the sea and endless horizon line. We took a cup of water from the seaside. To be more specific, Keskusautohalli is an traditional, old company with long history. It is important to keep the credit and reputation running. However, it seems to be conservative about social media. At this very moment, they need a cup of ice-cold sea water with mineral supplement to refresh up, or wake up. Otherwise, they are gonna fall behind or die.

This is the best time of the age. This is the worst time of the age. ——Charles Dickens

This is the best time of the week.
--Finally we gotta escape from school and every piece of work for a bit and run into woods and nature to chill with mates for a while. The weather is charming and lovely as it's not raining or snowing. Besides there is Aurora! The Northern Lights! What else could have been better? I have got nothing to complain about.

This is the worst time of the week.
--We fulfill our stomach to drain our brain. We have the most amazing scenery but have been waiting in darkness and coldness for hours. It worth waiting for. It is the scene that brings us there. It is the goal that bonds us. It is the aspiration that lures us all the way in. It is the pursuit that drives us crazy. It is the destination that makes us insatiable. We are human, we crave beauty and success. While on the way of figuring out how to pick the right way. There seems to have so many flowers to pick, so many paths to wander about, and so many choices to choose from.

This is Car of the Week.
--This is the most feasible and brilliant idea from our group and it is delivered while waiting for Northern light on the deck. It costs the least while aiming to achieve the most. It is to activate the idea of people following, commenting and subscribing Public social media account to create a trend and attract more customers.

We have torn up quite a few stickers to keep the window tidy. Besides we have posted board behind the door as a BBS to gather up ideas from other group. It turns out to be quite interesting and some of the ideas are crazy but quite useful. We finalized on 11 ideas and looked into them thoroughly to see if it works and how does it work in reality. The most feasible and promising ones are written in larger fonts so that audience would notice them first. Personally I love the idea of Tinder and Membership Program. They cost less but generates more than the others, which is the essence of cost efficiency.

It seems that in the camp we discovered a little bit new about me. And I learned a lot from innovating with my team mates. It's an adventure into whole new world. With brilliant people who match the pace and rhythm of each other, I have everything that I would like to work with. And I would most certainly come back here.

Work Day 2. Mar 20th

We started the innovation lecture at the Karen theatre at 8.30 sharp. People buzzing around, the atmosphere is full on innovation! Suddenly silence. The teacher uses an old trick of raising his hand, with everybody slowly following suit. Somehow this trick silences the whole room within seconds, whether this is some sort of conditioned response through years of being in the Finnish schooling system or just automatic due to getting cues from people around, well what ever it was defiantly worked! A new teacher introduced herself and began to have our innovative brains to open up via a physical sculpture activity. We were divided into pairs, sculptors and sculptees. We where to reposition the sculptees according to instructions given by the teacher. The funniest of which was to look like a ice hockey player! We then began to delve into different learning tools for innovation. We created an ‘idea tree’. Here the idea (no pun intended) is to create a tree with branches that each represent an idea in regards to our subject. Our group had the theme of ‘how to engage people offline via social media’. We where at first a bit dumbstruck how to continue, but the teachers encouraged us to always say ‘yes and’ and remove the words ‘no, but’ from our vocabulary. Suddenly ideas started to steamroll out. We created a branch wit ‘events’, ‘ competitions’, ‘offline/online engagement through writing replies online’ and different apps etc...
We thought we did good coming up with about 10 different ideas, however the teacher reminded us that for the time we had we should of come up with over 130 different ideas! Better luck next time, we thought, but it gave us a good idea to increase our efforts in a positive manner J

Then we switched to writing streaming for the purpose to generate diversified ideas. It’s more of throwing ideas inside the box and trying to figure out what kind of idea would be helpful and what could stimulate new ideas. It’s a process getting everyone inspired and let the process flowing nonstop. One of us was in charge to keep the record. Although this is a good way to keep thinking and make the ideation positive, there are some certain aspects that created bumps. Writing streaming lacked the feelings of involvement to cover all team members. That is what we recognized when we pondered back to rethink the whole process.

The third innovation tool that we tried was doodling. We all grabbed a pen and begin to draw and write random ideas on a paper while we discussed with the other team members. This way we came up with a lot of ideas and the though-chain seemed to be never ending. We think that this was a good tool to use, especially when you're in the need of something that'll keep your mind open and the ideas keep flowing. A disadvantage we noticed with this innovation tool was that it was easy to loose track of the subject as the thoughts wanders away from the subject.
